Lookin' for me!!

Now I am playing with lesson 4b

I had lots of fun with the different toys for flickr. Most of them I wanted to use my own pictures one.

I did enjoy this toy called bubblr. Here is what I made it. Here is the link so you can actually see what I wrote. Lookin' for me by Sandra

Check it out. You can make your own at http://www.pimpampum.net/bubblr/

Sugar Gliders aka Flickr post

This is my post using flickr.

Last week was our county fair. I am pretty busy at it as I help supervise the two different poultry shows. One of my 4-Hers sold his lambs & had enough money to buy a sugar glider. I got to see it & hold it. They are so cute and lovable. Here is a link to one on flickr. http://www.flickr.com/photos/aliciakidd/437202533/in/set-72157600899907162///

Sugar gliders are from Australia and New Guinea. They are possums. Now possums are different than opossums like we are use to in the south. Sugar gliders are marsupials which means they have a pouch. I have heard that the babies are about the size of a grain of rice. They have a 16 day gestation in the uterus & then they move to the pouch. They attach to a nipple (or a nibble, as my boys use to call it!) and remain in the pouch for 60 days. Sugar gliders are very scent oriented so one way to help them become bonded to you is to put a shirt you have worn in their sleeping pouch. Another way is to carry them with you in a small pouch during the day. They are nocturnal so they can be packed around quite easily.

Sugar gliders are quite pricey. I am trying to figure out how to get one for cheap. I have heard they are often impulse buys and when some people get them home, they don't like all the work they involve. If you know of a sugar glider that is looking for a new home, I would be interested in it!!

I think I will build my own cage as I do enjoy doing that. I can customise it that way. It also looks like I can make it lots of toys & pouches with the stuff around my house.

Now to think of a name....

RSS

I did some playing around with RSS. WOW, it is way easy to sign up for way to much!! I signed up a couple weeks ago for what I thought was a few things. WRONG!! Now I am weeding out the feeds I have signed up for while I am searching for more feeds.

Cool Site

I heard about a neat site. It creates word clouds. Now I didn't know what a word cloud was until I went to the site. It is called Wordle. A word cloud is bunch of words formed into a, sort of, cloud shape. The size of the word in the word cloud depends on how often it is typed in. I think I will play around with the program & then post some pictures of what I have created.

Carl's Trip to Missoula

Carl is one of my sons. He is 16. His girlfriend is visiting her dad in Alberton. Of course, he wanted to go see her because he hasn't seen her for at least 3 days. HA!!! This would be his first road trip where he has to do all the driving. Alberton is probably about 220 miles from our place. I was all for it. A road trip where you do all the driving sort of seems like a rite of passage for teenagers.

Then I started worrying. The head was saying, "Yes, this is a great experience for Carl." The heart was saying, "I hope his car runs good, I hope he doesn't fall asleep, I hope he has a good time, etc." I told him to call me periodically so I would know when he got there.

He called about an hour after I thought he left so I asked him where he was. He told me he was at his girlfriends place & had just finished eating. I kind of came unglued & asked how fast he drove. Then he told me he left 4 hours earlier than I was expecting. I calmed down.

He is suppose to come home tomorrow. I will be glad to see him again.

7 1/2 Habits for Lifelong Learners

I just got done with the first lesson. It was pretty cool. Here is what is hard for me:

1. Setting goals. I don't usually worry about the finished product. I just want to learn something. I guess with knitting, I wanted to learn how to knit socks. Now I know how to knit socks but along the way, I have knit a lot of other things, too.

2. Play. I think I am too busy to just play around. I know play is important because it allows me the freedom to do whatever I want & not be concerned about the finished product. It removes a lot of pressure. New discoveries can be found during play.

Here is what is easy for me:

1. Teaching others. I love to show & help others learn things.

2. Accept responsibility for my learning. Internally, I know that if I want something, I can make it happen.

I am off to write another blog post & to work on my learning contract.

Hi Everyone,

I decided to join the blogosphere (is that a word???) and start writing. A challenge at my work spurred me on. I work at the MSU library in Bozeman. The Montana Library Association is having a web 2.o challenge. We get to learn about cool things on our own. We will post about what we have learned on our blogs. Other people in the challenge can respond to what we have posted.

My blog is also open to the public. As the mother of 4 teenage boys, I have some unique & interesting experiences. I don't want to forget them and some of them would be funner shared with others.

I am married to a wonderful man named Rocky. He takes very good care of me.

This time of my life appears to be a time of change for me. I am down to 8 chicken & two ducks. The goats have found a new home. I have a new full-time job at MSU. The boys are beginning their transition to living independently. I had better be ready to enjoy the ride!!

Talk to you later,

Sandra
