7 1/2 Habits for Lifelong Learners

I just got done with the first lesson. It was pretty cool. Here is what is hard for me:

1. Setting goals. I don't usually worry about the finished product. I just want to learn something. I guess with knitting, I wanted to learn how to knit socks. Now I know how to knit socks but along the way, I have knit a lot of other things, too.

2. Play. I think I am too busy to just play around. I know play is important because it allows me the freedom to do whatever I want & not be concerned about the finished product. It removes a lot of pressure. New discoveries can be found during play.

Here is what is easy for me:

1. Teaching others. I love to show & help others learn things.

2. Accept responsibility for my learning. Internally, I know that if I want something, I can make it happen.

I am off to write another blog post & to work on my learning contract.

I was interested in what you said about learning being the goal, not the product. I share some of that tendency. I've never baked a loaf of bread but I've made bagels, I didn't learn to knit simple things, I made socks, when I learned to card weave, I broke all the rules on my 2nd project to see what the limits were.

I'm going to have to go back and look at setting goals again. All this talk about knitting has got me to wondering why I start so many projects and don't finish them.......
